You save the names of the Wi-Fi networks seen at a location (or a lecture room). At check-in the Android phone scans for them. Depending on your setting, the Wi-Fi replaces GPS, is needed as well as GPS, or is used when the phone sees it and GPS otherwise. iPhones (the web app) can’t read Wi-Fi, so they always use GPS.
Turn it on
Owners and admins; lecturers per courseWhere: Organizations: Settings › Check-in settings › Where staff must be. University mode: Course settings › Where students must be.
- First add the Wi-Fi names to the location: Menu › Locations › the location › Wi-Fi (the app can scan for the networks around you).
- Then choose: GPS · Wi-Fi (the phone must see the location’s Wi-Fi) · GPS and Wi-Fi (both: the strictest) · Either (Wi-Fi first, else GPS).
- University mode: GPS is always checked; choose “GPS and Wi-Fi” to also need the room’s Wi-Fi.
If something goes wrong
“Your phone can’t see the Wi-Fi”
Turn Wi-Fi on (you don’t need to connect) and move into the building or room.
The phone won’t scan for Wi-Fi
Android only lists Wi-Fi networks for apps with precise location allowed and Location switched on.
