Every check-in is confirmed with the fingerprint or face unlock of the person’s own phone. The phone keeps a secret key that only works after that unlock, and signs each check-in with it, so a check-in can’t be made for someone else from another phone. The fingerprint itself never leaves the phone — DutyMark never sees or stores it.
Why use it
- No buddy-punching: a colleague can’t check in for someone else.
- One approved phone per person: a new phone waits for an owner or admin to approve it.
- Works on most Android phones, including phones whose fingerprint is rated “weaker” (an admin allows it per person; those check-ins are marked).
Turn it on
- Choose Fingerprint (everyone uses their phone’s fingerprint or face), Fingerprint or QR, or QR only.
- You can change it for one person on their staff page.
- Each person sets up their phone once when they join: the app asks for their fingerprint or face and sends the phone for approval.
- Approve new phones in Approvals.
Checking in
- Open DutyMark and tap Check in.
- The app checks where you are (and the other checks your organization uses).
- Touch the fingerprint sensor or look at the phone when it asks.
- Done: the time is recorded by DutyMark, not by your phone’s clock.
If something goes wrong
“Set up this phone again” after I added a new fingerprint
Android destroys the check-in key when a fingerprint is added or removed. Tap Set up again: the phone is set up afresh and waits for an admin to approve it.
My phone’s fingerprint is accepted but check-in says it could not sign
Some phones have a fault in the security chip. The app then offers a weaker unlock; your admin must allow “weaker unlock” for you on your staff page.
“The check-in permission was out of date”
Your admin reset or re-approved your phone. The app renews the permission by itself — tap Check in again.
